Explanation
Top lane is definitely the most passive role. There is not much that will happen but farming so keep that in mind. A lot of people think it is required to get kills in every lane to be considered doing good. If you pick the right chmampion then just farming and teleporting around is more than enough for your team. Champions you want to be playing top are usually tanky and have a good amount of crowd control. You want to try and teleport to other lanes as soon as it's up if you can or try to keep it in sync with dragon spawn. Sometimes the enemy will take ignite. In this case rush an item with armor or magic resist before anything else.
Runes & Masteries
The runes you take depend on the champion you want to play. For example someone like Garen or Darius would want flat attack damage reds and quints armor yellows and magic resistance blues. Where as some champions need attack speed and you would switch the quints out for that like for Irelia or Gnar. Sometimes you want cooldown reduction and blues are the best to switch out for that. As far as masteries go, the majority of champions use thunderlords as the keystone and take biscuits over assassin.
